Book: Dinner Menu Set

Video:

About the Project:

The dinner party. Breaking bread beneath your own roof in the company of your closest friends can lead to some of life’s most precious conversations and lasting memories. It’s also a golden opportunity to flex on your guests with the recipe you’ve been workshopping, and finally get some use out of the artisan dinnerware you’ve collected in your travels (just make sure you dust them off).

In the spirit of showing my guests the best time (any probably showing-off a little bit), I designed this set of four folding dinner menus.

There’s a reason that the finest dining establishments favor lush fabric-clad menus over flimsy laminated 10”x12” pages with peeling corners.

If the menu looks this good, surely the food is in the same echelon.

A magnetic flap on the inside works like a clipboard, holding a paper menu in place. Guests with fidgety hands like myself will enjoy playing with the snapping action of this feature.

Each menu is unique, marked 1-4 to indicate its place in the composition.

Who doesn’t want to feel special?

MATERIALS

Boards - Davey’s Binder Board - 98pt

Card - 1mm

Leather - Imitation leather from Baile (Madrid)

Magnets - 1/4” Neodymium magnets

Book Cloth - Buckram - Black 250gsm

I plan to have these menus for at least the next entire lifetime. I’ll look forward to seeing how they age with time, wine, and spaghetti sauce.

While this is not intended to be a tutorial, you may feel inspired and/or challenged to use some of the featured techniques to make something functional and beautiful. I hope this is the case.
