Austian-born Karl Bitter immigrated to the United States at the age of 21. It wasn’t long before he established himself as one of his time’s foremost architectural sculptors. In 1892 Bitter had this building constructed to serve as his studio. Bitter’s bronze statue of Pomona, the Roman goddess of abundance, sits in the Pulitzer Fountain outside of the Plaza Hotel.
This 1982 Ford C8000 is the sole fire engine serving the island of Cuttyhunk, MA (population 52 as of 2000 census).
