Roshen Konafetto

Roshen Konafetto

I recall feeling foolish and ashamed in May when I walked into a Ukrainian restaurant in my neighborhood and ordered a Lvivske (a centuries-old Ukrainian beer), only to be enlightened by the waiter.

“We don’t carry Lvevsk right now sir”.

It took me a few painful moments to realize that a nation at war likely would not prioritize beer exports to New York City.

After gorging on pierogis, borsht, and stuffed cabbage, my mind wandered to Ukrainian BOUNTY and what snacks the nation, which is fighting so hard to preserve its culture, holds dear. When I returned home, I dug through my inventory and found Konafetto.

This dense and rich BOUNTY, known for its “Crispy wafers & delicious filling”, is made by Roshen in Ukraine.

Roshen’s name comes from owner* Petro Poroshenko, who was the President of Ukraine from 2014-2019.

The Oligarch, who also built an empire in the real estate and media industries, is known as the “Chocolate King”.

I continue to be inspired by both the BOUNTY and resilience of Ukraine.

*After Ukraine passed the Anti-Oligarch Law in 2021, Porosehenko was forced to divest Roshen, along with other vast business interests.
