Interview: Bobby
Seeking refuge from New York’s sweltering August heat, I languished into Ben’s Deli Grocery, on Avenue B. A chime rang out as the bodega door closed behind me. I turned to find my friend Bobby, whose eyes (behind cool black shades) were level with the cereal boxes on the top shelf.
Amidst the competing scents of bacon egg and cheese and deli coffee, something smelled distinctly of flowers.
Bobby smelled like flowers.
As he extended a greeting, I could vaguely hear the sound of Nick Leng’s “Bobby” tumbling out of the headphones fixed upon his dome.
Like old pals, we exchanged stories from the week, catching up between bites of Twizzlers.
All was routine until Bobby said he had a new problem: People he meets in his neighborhood sometimes have trouble believing his height.
For Bobby, a normal guy, this was perplexing. Although he’s glad to politely brush off other’s doubts, he told me it would be nice to clarify once and for all that he was 6’ 2”.
Eager to help settle this nagging misunderstanding regarding my friend’s stature, I returned to the Bounty Archive HQ and found Bobby just the right tool: His very own tape measure.
Bobby was delighted to see the tape measure. “This is going to solve all of my problems” he shared, his voice flush with optimism.
A quick measurement (and a double-check) revealed what we already knew to be true:
Bobby is 6’ 2”.
Bobby’s principal fascination lies with tall things. In a city littered with skyscrapers, cranes, bridges, and giant cannolis, Bobby experiences a perpetual state of captivation.
His taste is impeccable. From his choice of BOUNTY (Twizzlers), to his music format (CDs), to his favorite hobby (walking), you can tell that Bobby is a man dedicated to the classics. That does not mean however, that he’s afraid to explore. A world traveller with an insatiable appetite to learn, there is no telling where Bobby may be walking next.
Through the opposing-yet-interdependent lenses of Creation and Consumption, we speak with Bobby, whose trademark brevity always makes for an enlightening conversation.
